Esophageal Involvement and Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease in Systemic Sclerosis: A Tertiary Center Experience

Aim: Esophagus is the most frequently involved gastrointestinal segment in systemic sclerosis (SS). Gastroesophageal reflux, which occurs with motility disorder caused by esophageal involvement, has an important place course of disease due to many local and complications. In this study, we investigated demographic features, endoscopic, manometric, 24-hour pH monitoring findings patients SS.
 Materials Methods: Twenty-six SS who presented dysphagia or heartburn complaints were identified. Patients' files, ph esophagus examined.
 Results: All symptomatic, 96.1% women. 46.1% them applied complaint 53.9% dysphagia. The frequency esophagitis was found be significantly higher (p = 0.005). Pathological reflux detected 90% underwent it 0.013).
 Conclusion: Esophageal involvement a hallmark manifestation typically secondary dysphagia.In our society, incidence GERD GERD-related complications high symptoms. It refer these experienced gastroenterology centers evaluated primarily endoscopic then other diagnostic methods.
